Antenatal Clinics
If you think you may be pregnant,
please see the doctor who you wish to look after you through the pregnancy so
that your antenatal care can be arranged.
Asthma/Chronic
Obstrusive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Clinic
We have an asthma clinic, which is
run by Maureen Lewis. The purpose of the clinic is to regularly review our asthma
patients so that as far as possible we can prevent serious asthma attacks.
We encourage any patient who is receiving
medication for asthma to attend the asthma clinic. Please ask the receptionist
for details.
Diabetic
Clinic
The diabetic clinic is run by Judy
Clifford and Dr Wells. We aim to review most of our diabetic patients in the diabetic
clinic, reducing the need for patients to attend hospital out-patient clinics.

Coronary Heart
Disease (CHD)/Stroke Clinic
We run a Coronary Heart Disease clinic
for patients with heart disease, for example those patients who have suffered
a heart attack or angina. Patients are invited to clinic every six months, where
their condition and current medication is reviewed. This clinic is run by Maureen
Lewis and Dr Wells.
Child Health
Clinic
We hold weekly child health clinics.
These are run by our health visitors in conjunction with Dr Giles and Dr Keogh.
All children are examined at 8 weeks. Written invitations
are sent out shortly before the clinics are held.
Well Woman Clinic
The well woman clinic is run by Maureen
Lewis. Appointments can be made for cervical smears, to discuss hormone replacement
therapy, and for general health checks.
Well Man Clinic
If you would like a health/lifestyle check, please make
an appointment with our practice nurses.
Family Planning
Clinic
Maureen Lewis runs a family planning
clinic, at which she can offer pill checks, Depo-Provera plus reviews, high vaginal
swabs, chlamydia screens, issue Levonelle for emergency contraception and coil
checks (six weeks post insertion and annual reviews).
Cryotherapy Clinic
This is for the treatment of warts,
small skin tags, and verrucae. The affected area is frozen with liquid nitrogen.
This treatment is not recommended for children under 12 years. The clinic is held
monthly. Please book at reception.
Smoking Cessation
If you require help and advice to enable you to give up smoking please book an appointment with our practice nurses.
Weight Management
Our nurses are able to offer weight management advice and support. Please book at reception.
OTHER SERVICES
Contraception
Advice is provided by all the partners
on all methods of contraception. As with all our services, it is completely confidential.
Teenagers are welcome, again in total confidence. Emergency contraception is available
and should be started within 72 hours.
Cervical Smears
We recommend that all our female
patients should have a smear performed from age 25 to 64 years. You will be contacted
as per the local recall programme. The purpose of this test is to prevent cancer
of the cervix. The procedure is normally carried out by the practice nurses. Please
make an appointment at reception.
Well Man Checks/General Health Checks
Please make an appointment at reception.
Travel Vaccinations
Our nurses offer a full advisory
service for those travelling abroad. Please book in with the nurses two to three
months before you are due to travel.
Minor Surgery
We offer a wide range of minor surgical
procedures at the surgery. You should consult a doctor about any moles, lumps
or bumps that concern you, as these may be suitable for removal at the surgery.
Flu Vaccination
This is recommended for everyone
over 65 years of age, and for patients with chronic medical conditions such as
heart disease, diabetes, chest or kidney problems. It is carried out between October
and December each year. Please book in with the nurse.
Private Medical Services
Some services are not covered by
the NHS, and a charge will be made for these. This includes private insurance
forms, passport applications, and various special examinations for employment,
driving etc.
A full list of these services is
displayed in the surgery together with the current standard charges.
HILLVIEW MEDICAL CENTRE EQUIPMENT FUND
This fund exists purely for
the benefit of our patients. Suitable equipment for purchase includes syringe
drivers for terminal care, nebulisers for treatment of severe chest problems,
and equipment for the treatment room.
If you would like to make a donation,
please see one of the office staff. Cheques should be made payable to Hillview
Medical Centre.
Cash donations will be accepted over the reception desk.
A list of items purchased with the fund will be published in the practice newsletter.
